Type 31 Frigate update

 

 

 

The decision has now been made regarding the Type 31e Frigate. Babcock won the tender, an order for 5 Type 31e frigates have been ordered with the possibility of more to follow. The “e” stands for exportable, meaning other countries will place orders.

The Frigate has gained the nickname of Lidle class due to the low cost (£250 million)

The first ship should be made available in 2023

The MOD asked for tenders to build the latest Type 31 Frigate. The companies involved in the tendering were, BAE Systems & Cammell Laird with their Leander design, Atlas, Babcock & Arrowhead with a General purpose frigate design and
The MOD has now suspended, the Defence Equipment and Support office suspended it due to the “Lack of compliant bids”. The process is now to be “streamlined” and then restarted. hoping to attract more competition.
